Ultrasound

The exam is carried out by a Radiologist (Doctor) or a Sonographer. A device called an ultrasound probe creates the soundwaves which bounce off body parts and create “echoes.” These echoes are then turned into moving images.

The Radiologists/Sonographers are able to use the images produced during your scan to provide a diagnosis which will be sent back to your referrer.

Within Medway NHS Foundation Trust, Pregnancy scanning is carried out in the Fetal Medicine Department.

Clinic patients will have their results available for their appointment with their consultant. GP patient results are sent back to the GP practice within 7 to 10 days.
