Trauma and orthopaedics (T&O) are areas of surgery which treat injuries and conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves). People of all ages are treated by this service.
We treat injuries and conditions such as a bone fracture, a deformity of the spine or limbs, or a long-term condition that’s developed over many years, such as osteoarthritis.
To ensure patient care is tailored and specific, we have a consultant dedicated to the care of the elderly.
Most orthopaedic and fracture clinics are held in a modern purpose-built area in the outpatient department. Patients are seen in the fracture clinics in the shortest possible time after their attendance in the Emergency Department.
We work closley with the plaster room and orthotics unit.
Virtual Fracture Clinic (VFC)
The Virtual Fracture Clinic (VFC) was introduced at Medway in April 2018. It is collaboration between the Minor Injury Unit (MIU)/Emergency Department at Medway Maritime Hospital including the MIUs at Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital, Sheppey Community Hospital and Gravesham Community Hospital. Other healthcare providers can also refer into the VFC.
