The Oliver Fisher Neonatal Unit provides intensive care, high dependency, and special and transitional care services for babies born prematurely or who are sick and require specialist treatment. Around 1, 200 babies are treated on the unit each year as part of our neonatal and maternity services. We care for babies from the Medway and surrounding southeast Thames region, including Dartford, Gravesend, Maidstone and Tunbridge wells. We also accept referrals from outside Kent.
Babies and families are cared for by a specialist team led by nine consultants and a neonatal matron.
Visiting
The unit is open 24-hours a day seven days a week. Parents are welcome to be with their babies at all times. Other family members and friends may visit with the parents.
Virtual tour of the unit
A 3D virtual tour of the Oliver Fisher Neonatal Unit has been made by the Kent Surrey and Sussex Neonatal Network so families can see where their baby is being admitted to, or transferred, to help alleviate anxiety if their baby requires neonatal care.
Users can self-navigate and stop and start the tour at any time to review a particular area of the unit in more detail. Information tags explain the different areas and the equipment used. It also provides an insight into the neonatal transport service as it includes a tour of the dedicated ambulance and transport incubator.
The virtual tour was co-produced with families, working with Kent, Surrey and Sussex Parent Advisory Group (PAG), neonatal staff, Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MVPs and MNVPs), Local Maternity and Neonatal Services (LMNS) and Kent, Surrey and Sussex Operational Delivery Network (ODN).
Virtual tours of all 13 neonatal units in Kent, Surrey and Sussex can be found on the south east neonatal network website.
Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Trust
The unit is supported by the Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Trust which raises money to buy lifesaving equipment so staff can continue to deliver high standards of care to very sick and premature babies.
