The Trust has welcomed a new group of doctors for their induction to the hospital this week, including around 60 joining the NHS for the first time.
This year, our Medical Education and Simulation teams joined forces with consultants and members of their teams, along with representatives from Pharmacy, Eliot Ward, the Acute Response Team (ART) and nursing colleagues, to deliver ‘Simway Sunday’ – one of our most ambitious and successful training events yet.
Hosted on Sunday 30 July, the event incorporated a simulated ward round with consultants from the Emergency Department, Medicine, and Paediatrics, along with Medical Education staff acting as patients; this provided surgical skills practice, cardiac arrest scenarios, mindfulness sessions, and a chance for our new foundation doctors to get to know each other and the new colleagues they will be working with. Topics covered included escalation, leadership, prescribing and task completion. As well as an important learning opportunity which put our new colleagues in the best possible position for day one, there was a lot of fun had and positive feedback all round.
Please join us in giving a warm welcome to our new colleagues – and thanks to our fantastic Medical Education and Simulation teams for hosting such an innovative learning experience for the junior doctors.
