Meet Valentine, the first patient to trial the use of colourful blankets in our frailty ward.
The blankets will be used to help older patients, particularly those with dementia, find their way back to bed. We are hoping this will reduce inpatient falls as the colours will allow patients to see the edge of the bed more easily.
The first blanket has been kindly donated by Walderslade Knit and Natter group but we need another 109! They can only be used by one patient, who will be able to take the blanket home.
Blankets need to three foot wide; the length depends on you – some patients may want to use them on their laps; others to cover shoulders.
Blankets can be quilted, knitted or crocheted but new wool and material need to be used to reduce the risk of infection.
Please drop off any blankets to the Volunteers’ Desk in main reception. Thank you.
