Thanks to one of our young hospital volunteers, £1,050 has been raised for the children’s ward at Medway Maritime Hospital.
Ruby Sulaiman, 17, with support from 40 friends at Rainham Mark Grammar School, held a bake sale in February to raise the money.

Ruby said: “I volunteer in the League of Friends shop and wanted to raise money for children at the hospital. With permission from my school and, with the help of friends, we put on a bake sale and raised £1,000, which is just incredible. BAE Systems also donated a further £50 bringing the grand total to £1,050.”
Donna Law, Head of Charity, Medway Hospital Charity, said: “On behalf of our young patients, I would like to thank Ruby and everyone who supported her fundraiser by either making, or buying, cakes. Work is underway in our children’s ward to create a new sensory room and the money raised will be used to support equipment for this exciting space.”
Since 1995, Medway Hospital Charity has been funding projects that fall outside of the NHS budget. From the impact of buddy chairs, which allow families to stay overnight with patients, to the bigger items such as the refurbishment of our cancer unit.
Thanks to the generous donations received, we have purchased state-of-the-art medical equipment, new recliner chairs, supported staff wellbeing, and have paid for many little extras which make such a huge difference to patients, staff and volunteers at Medway Maritime Hospital.
