Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) is now in use for patients and visitors using Car Park 1 (multi-storey ground floor, opposite the main entrance) and Car Park 2 (opposite Green Zone entrance).
How ANPR works
- On arrival at the car park your registration plate will be scanned. The entrance barrier will automatically open. A ticket is only issued if your registration plate fails to scan.
- Before you leave, you can either pay at a pay machine in the main entrance (cash and card), Atrium (Green Zone, cash and card), and Car Park 2 (card only) or pay as you leave the car park using a contactless payment card at the exit barrier.
- If you were issued a ticket on arrival, please pay at a pay station or the car park exit barrier using your ticket rather than your vehicle registration.
- If you have any questions, or need help, please visit the Security Desk in the hospital main entrance.
Blue Badge holders
There are different types of Blue Badges.
- Most Blue Badge holders can scan their Blue Badge at the pay machine or exit barrier as you leave the car park. The barrier will automatically lift when exiting the car park.
- If you were issued a ticket on arrival please pay at a pay station or exit barrier using your ticket rather than your vehicle registration.
- If your Blue Badge does not have a yellow stripe on the front, please visit the Security Desk in the main entrance to validate your free parking. You must bring your Blue Badge with you and provide your registration plate. The person pictured on your Blue Badge must be present.
Patients and visitors eligible for discounted parking
- Before you leave the hospital, please visit the Security Desk in the main entrance. You will not be able to claim concessionary rates at a pay machine or the exit barrier.
- Please bring your concessions paperwork with you (for example, your claim form or red badge) together with your registration plate number.
- If you were issued a ticket on arrival, please visit the Security Desk in the main reception before returning to your vehicle. Please bring the ticket and your concessions paperwork with you.
- Once validated by the parking team, the barrier will automatically lift as you leave the car park.
How to access Blue Badge parking
- Please use the main entrance to Car Park 1 (multi-storey, ground floor) to access parking spaces for Blue Badge holders
- Take the first exit from the roundabout as you enter the hospital site and follow signs to Car Park 1
- The previous entrance to Blue Badge parking (opposite the main hospital entrance) is now closed.
Parking charges
Parking charges for patients and visitors will increase this week for the first since 2022 with new rates as follows:
- Up to two hours – £2.30 (10 pence increase)
- Up to three hours – £3.50 (20 pence increase)
- Up to four hours – £4.60 (20 pence increase)
- Up to five hours – £5.80 (30 pence increase)
- Up to 24 hours – £9.20 (40 pence increase)
The first 30 minutes continues to be free. Free parking and reduced rates for eligible patients and visitors continue.
The income we receive from car parking pays for the costs of providing the parking – such as maintenance, security and lighting, with the rest invested in hospital services.
