Gillingham Football Club made its annual festive visit to our children’s ward last week.
Manager Mark Bonner, Goalkeeping Coach Deren Ibrahim and a number of first-team players brought along a number of gifts to hand out to young patients on Tuesday 10 December. The team’s mascots Tommy and Tammy were also in attendance to help spread some festive cheer as the holiday season approaches.
In all the group spent nearly an hour-and-a-half speaking to families, having photographs taken with the children and chatting to staff before departing.
Managing Director Joe Comper said: “Visiting the children’s ward is something the club has done for many years now and it is a visit we always look forward to.
“The players and staff were only too happy to take some gifts and spread some festive cheer to the children and their families, some of whom have gone through a difficult period in the build up to Christmas.
“The visit was very well organised and I thank the staff and mascots for making this very important annual trip.”
Amanda Russell, Head of Nursing for Children’s and Young People Services, said: “A huge thank you to the Gillingham Football Club players, and the coaches and club’s mascots, for visiting our children’s wards and helping to spread some festive cheer.
“The visit certainly helped to put some smiles on the faces of our young patients, as well as their families and our staff, which was just lovely to see.”
