Have you or a loved one received great care or treatment from someone working at Medway Maritime Hospital?
To celebrate the outstanding achievements and commitment of hospital staff, the search is on to find the Medway Maritime Hospital Hero for 2025.
Our Hospital Hero award recognises somebody who has done something extraordinary or made a real difference to patients’ lives or their friends or family and is once again kindly sponsored by the Kent Messenger who will choose a winner from nominations received from members of the public.
The winner will be presented with this special award at the hospital’s Star Awards ceremony on Thursday 12 June which will celebrate the work of staff and volunteers to put patients first.
Jayne Black, Chief Executive, Medway NHS Foundation Trust said: “Once again our heartfelt thanks to the Kent Messenger for helping us find this year’s Hospital Hero.
“The award is a fantastic way to recognise and reward hard-working staff who have gone the extra mile for our patients or have shown great passion and commitment to improving their care, nominated by our patients and their family and friends.”
“If you know somebody who deserves to be a hospital hero, please take the time to nominate them.”
Last year’s Hospital Hero Award winner was Emily Brown, Namaste Care Practitioner. Using alternative therapies to relax people, Emily’s role involves working with patients at the end of their life, or who are living with dementia, and helping family members who are struggling with grief.
Emily said: “I do my job because I truly love it so winning Hospital Hero for 2024 for doing something I love means more than words.
“Since being recognised for my work, I have continued to embed Namaste care at Medway Maritime Hospital with the introduction of the Butterfly Restaurant and Winter Wonderland experiences. These encourage our patients living with dementia to leave their bed space and enjoy the company of other people while they have lunch or socialise. I was also asked to be a keynote speaker at the Namaste Care International Conference, London in September 2024.
“I’m really excited for 2025 as one of my projects will be to create two Namaste rooms on our wards so patients living with dementia can be provided with Namaste care in a calm environment.”
Anyone who works in the hospital can be nominated, regardless of their role.
Your nomination should include the person’s name and department they work in and a short description (no more than 500 words) of why they deserve to win our Medway Maritime Hospital Hero Award for 2025.
You can send your nomination by email to medway@thekmgroup.co.uk or complete the form which is in the Medway Messenger.
Nominations close on Monday 17 March.
