Members of the public are invited to the Trust’s Annual Members’ Meeting on Wednesday 11 September 2024.
This is your opportunity to find out what has happened at the hospital over the past year and our plans for the year ahead; also about progress on our ongoing improvement programme, Patient First.
Focus on achievements in surgery
We have two speakers taking centre stage this year – Howard Cottam, Medical Director, Surgery and Anaesthetics, and Claire Leaney, Matron, Sunderland Day Case Centre. They will be sharing the story of our advancements in surgery, for example, how we are using a new robot for gynaecological procedures, and how we are increasing the number of patients treated as day cases, improving patient experience and helping to reduce waiting times.
Chief Executive Jayne Black said: “The Annual Members’ Meeting is your chance to hear directly about what we are doing and how we are performing. During the past year, we have made significant improvements in many areas, not just in surgery, but also in our ambulance hand-overs and emergency care, as well as across other services. We also celebrated 25 years of maternity services in our hospital, following the closure of All Saints’ Hospital and we will be reflecting on that too.”
“I look forward to welcoming you, whether you choose to attend in-person or virtually.”
Your chance to find out more
There will also be a number of stands for attendees to visit before and after the event, and during a break in the formal meeting. These are set to include a stall about Patient First, where you will be able to see how dedicated huddles help us drive improvement. A crucial part of Patient First, improvement huddles are in place in many areas and continue to be introduced across the hospital. These are regular, short meetings which ensure we focus on the right priorities, and empower staff to make changes, however small, that matter most.
The Annual Members’ Meeting takes place in the hospital restaurant, Below Deck Dining (Level One, Purple Zone), at 6pm on Wednesday 11 September. Light refreshments will be available from 5:30pm.
If you would like to attend, please email met-tr.members-medway@nhs.net to register. Please also let us know if you need any additional support to attend and we will do our best to support you. There is also an option to join the meeting virtually through MS Teams. Please let us know when responding whether you wish to join the meeting in person or remotely.
