The NHS Counter Fraud Authority estimates that over £1.2 billion is lost to fraud in the NHS every year. That is enough to fund Medway NHS Foundation Trust’s operations four times over. When criminals defraud the NHS this results in money being taken away from it’s intended purpose, patient care, and placed into the hands of criminals instead. We need your help to prevent and detect these crimes and protect public money.
The Trust has a zero tolerance of bribery and is committed to taking all necessary steps to counter fraud and bribery. To meet this objective, the Trust adhered to the requirements set out by the NHS Counter Fraud Authority and the Government Functional Standard Gov013: Counter Fraud.
Every organisation is required to have a dedicated Local Counter Fraud Specialist who work with the NHS Counter Fraud Authority to raise awareness of fraud and bribery, ensuring there are effective controls in place to prevent the occurrence of fraud and to investigate all suspected bribery and fraudulent activity.
At Medway NHS Foundation Trust this service is provided by RSM UK.
There are different ways fraud and bribery can occur within the NHS for example:
- Working whilst sick
- Gifts and Hospitality
- Private work in NHS time
- Overseas Patient Fraud
- Expenses
- Timesheets
- Suppliers and Procurement
The Local Counter Fraud Specialist can be contacted by anyone including, patients, members of the public as well as employees at the Trust. Should you become concerned about an issue and have suspicions of fraud or bribery, please contact the Trust’s Local Counter Fraud Specialist:
